Catch the Ella Train Hostel is actually a small old fashioned house that has been turned into a hostel little by little.
The hostel is located in Peradeniya in a small village which is close to Kandy City. It takes 10 min by bus or by tuc-tuc to get into town.
The train station (Peradeniya Junction Railway Station) is 500m from the Hostel
And if you catch the Ella train from Peradeniya junction railway station it is less crowded than kandy train station.
Famous Royal Botanical Garden is just 1.5km from the hostel
You can stay in a completely quite environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Best thing about the hostel is that you can learn a little bit about the history of sri lanka from the sources available in the property. we have around 500 books on both the history of Sri Lanka and Europe.
Also, a city tour can be arranged where you will learn a lot about the culture,religion and most importantly food patterns of kandy and sri lanka.

The best place to stay! Asanka is a great host and we had the best time ever! He not only let us enjoy his cute house away from the busyness of Kandy, but also showed us the area in a great day trip. We had so much fun with him and his kind heart. His aunties make the best food which you can enjoy in the hostel and Asanka knows the best local places to eat Sri Lankan food such as Kottu. Overall you should definitely stay here, it is a once in a lifetime experience!

Easily the most unique and authentic hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Asanka is much more than just a host - for the two days I stayed he was my friend and local guide, and he genuinely cared about showing me how people in Sri Lanka really live.
Asanka helps you every step of the way for planning out your day. For me, each day started with a huge and delicious breakfast cooked by his aunties, then we’d set of to do a mix of Kandy’s main attractions (like the tea factory and Ayurvedic massage), and some spots w

Nice break from the hustle and bustle of Kandy, Asanka will make sure you get on the Train to Ella which is great! Very authentic feel to the accommodation, and I was lucky enough to get a free upgrade because I was the only guest 11/10
