Hotel Puerto Viejo has a deep history in our town. Dating as far back as 1939 as one of the first hotels in the area and further being developed as the most iconic surf hotel, it has become a landmark after years of hosting travelers from around the World.

The staff were friendly and helpful. There was someone watching the gate all night which made the place feel safe. The facility itself wasn’t very clean. We had a private room but felt the shared bathrooms and showers were in better condition. The fan in our room was broken which made the first night rough. As soon as we told the staff they gave us a new fan and we slept much better!

Most of the staff here was rude, and there was loud music playing almost 24/7. Our room was not clean, there was no hot water in our shower and the “window†was a hole in the wall with only a mosquito net covering it. We ate at the restaurant one night, and waited over an hour to get food that wasn’t even worth eating.
I do not recommend you stay here!

This hostel is not for the faint hearted. It rained and my stuff got wet in the private room i was in. Mosquitos nonâ€stop! There were holes in the mosquito net that are used as windows, so it served no purpose. There was heavy rain and the hostel flooded (Obviously this is out of thier control) but keep it in mind for the rainy season. It was a miserable time.
