Sovereign House is a heritage listed building, with high ceilings, extra large rooms and facilities, with wrap around verandahs and a cafe and bar on site.
Our dorm rooms are male, female or mixed and accommodate 6 people, ages 18-35, and there is no overcrowding here! Relax in one of the many shared spaces, or read a book in the hammocks, our hostel is the perfect stay while you're in Townsville. We are a short taxi or uber ride from the airport, we are literally across the road from the train station and a scooter or taxi/uber from the bus stop. The street we are located on is the main street in Townsville.

Cesspit on a derelict street very unsafe. Mice in kitchen. Ant infestation issue and bed big issue, mattress’ plastic wrapped. Woke up with ants in my bed and crawling all over me and all over my bags, inside my bags. Staff literally told me they was “off duty and did not care†No responsibility taken for unhygienic unsafe space. Avoid at all costs. Corporate are beyond rude and could not care less about the issues raised. Very unhinged long term guests also stay here to be aware of.

Bed bugs are a massive problem in this place, seeing some of the people permanently living there the marks all up their arms is dreadful. I stayed for 3 nights and by the end I had a few bites and marks only 1 toilet for the men and that was blocked for 2 days so everyone in the hostel had to use 1 toilet. No aircon in the rooms had to pay for that. Kitchen space is very limited. Is 35 minute walk from greyhound bus stop. The check in is a joke and definitely double check the amount they charge

It does the job as a bed to sleep, butI wouldn't recommend staying too long. A lot of the facilities need updating or were out of order. Lot of mattresses and pillows were stained and could do with updating. Lauren at reception however was very nice and helpful.
